In the heart of the Campidano, where the plain stretches wide and the Flumini Mannu has shaped a fertile land.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Decimoputzu<\/a> lies just twenty minutes from Cagliari<\/strong>, in a territory defined by the river and centuries of agricultural work. The earliest traces date back to the Neolithic period: domus de janas<\/i> and menhirs<\/i> still dot the countryside. During the Bronze Age, the Nuragic civilisation flourished, followed by the Phoenicians and the Romans, who enhanced the productivity of these lands.\n

In the Middle Ages, the area became part of the Judicate of Cagliari<\/strong>, later passing under Pisan, Aragonese, and Spanish rule. The name itself reflects this history: \u201cdecimum\u201d<\/i> refers to the tenth mile along the ancient route between Cagliari and Sulcis, while \u201cPutzu\u201d<\/i> means well\u2014an essential element for an agricultural community.\n

The 19th century brought the abolition of feudalism and new reforms. The 20th century introduced land reclamation and modernisation, without breaking the deep connection to the land. Today, Decimoputzu preserves its authentic rural character, where life still follows the rhythm of harvests and seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’ambiente naturale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Decimoputzu moves to the rhythm of the Campidano plain. The landscape is dominated by open fields: cultivated land, vineyards, and vegetable gardens. The Flumini Mannu<\/strong> flows through the area, bringing fertility, its banks lined with poplars, willows, and reeds where herons and little egrets nest.\n

The countryside forms an agricultural mosaic: vineyards, orchards, and family gardens alternate with wild olive groves and rows of eucalyptus trees. Toward the west, where the plain begins to rise gently, low hills appear, covered with pastureland and Mediterranean vegetation. It is here that the flat landscape gives way to more varied terrain, marking the transition between the Campidano plain and the inland Sulcis region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A journey through the landscape<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From Decimoputzu begins a journey into Sardinia\u2019s most authentic agricultural landscape. It starts in the historic centre, with its low houses and inner courtyards, then continues to the Romanesque Church of San Giorgio<\/a><\/strong>, a 12th-century landmark set in the countryside.\n

Following the Flumini Mannu, you can explore paths along the riverbanks, ideal for walks among reeds and poplar trees. The surrounding countryside invites you to wander along dirt roads connecting rural properties: working tractors, well-tended gardens, and small family-run farms.

To the west, the hills offer viewpoints<\/strong> where the landscape opens up across the entire plain, stretching as far as the sea. You return to the village with the sense of having crossed a place that does not rely on spectacle: its strength lies in its quiet authenticity, in the slow rhythm of the seasons, and in the direct, grounded way of life of those who work the land every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
