The spiritual heart of Decimoputzu, bearing witness to centuries of faith and transformation
In the historic centre of Decimoputzu, overlooking the main square, stands the Church of Nostra Signora delle Grazie (Our Lady of Grace): a building that has accompanied community life for five centuries, marking its rhythms, celebrations, moments of joy, and times of reflection.
A history of continuous transformation
The origins of the parish date back at least to the 16th century, when the village was part of the Diocese of Cagliari. The first certain documentary reference dates to 1560, but the church has undergone many transformations over the centuries.
The building we see today is the result of successive layers: extensions, restorations, and additions that bear witness to the community’s constant commitment to caring for and embellishing its place of worship. The façade visible today, with its soaring profile and bell tower overlooking the village, largely dates back to later restoration works.
L’architettura: tra semplicità e devozione
The exterior has a simple, linear façade, crowned by a tympanum and flanked by the square-shaft bell tower that rises above the urban fabric of the historic centre. The interior, with a central nave, bays, and side chapels, preserves a heritage of sacred art and popular devotion. Among the most significant chapels is the one dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, with its starry vault and decorative stuccoes. The high altar, set in a raised position, presides over the sacred space with solemnity.
